Dope Roads is a site for finding good motorcycle roads. You can browse roads and the map without an account. This page explains what we collect and why.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how riders use the site. If you choose Accept on the banner, Google Analytics sets cookies and records things like the pages you view, how far you scroll on a road page, how long you stay, how you move and zoom the map, which roads you open on the explore page, and which buttons you click. It also sees your approximate location (city level) and your browser and device type.
If you choose Decline, we ask Google Analytics not to store cookies or identifiers for you. We use this data in aggregate and do not sell it.
Cookies and local storage
- Analytics cookies (
_gaand_ga_*, set by Google): only after you accept. They last up to two years. - Sign-in cookies (named
next-auth.*): set only when you sign in with Google. They keep you signed in for up to 24 hours and protect the sign-in flow. They are needed for the account features to work. - Your consent choice: saved in your browser's local storage so we don't ask again. It is not sent to us.
You can change your mind by clearing this site's data in your browser, which brings the banner back.
Accounts
Signing in uses Google. We receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google, and only people on our allowlist can sign in right now. If you use account features we also store what you create: comments, ratings, favorites, custom routes and road issue reports, tied to your account.
Location
The “Show my location” button on the explore map asks your browser for your position, only when you press it. It is used to center the map in your browser and is not sent to our servers.
Error reports
When something breaks, the site may send us an error report with the page address, the error message and your browser's user agent so we can fix it. We don't use these for tracking.
Who else handles data
Google (sign-in and analytics) and our hosting provider, DigitalOcean, which also serves images and map files.
Your choices and contact
